Training & DevelopmentNKMS Invests in Its People. Law school differs from other trade schools. You may learn the difference between tort and contract, but you rarely learn the practical lessons you need to succeed as a lawyer in the real world. Many law firms expect their associates to learn these lessons by osmosis. NKMS rejects this sink-or-swim approach in favor of three distinct training methods designed to help our new lawyers develop professionally. Peer Training. Within days of starting at NKMS, new associates attend a series of workshops crafted to introduce the culture of our firm. These seminars, taught by senior attorneys in the firm, include such topics as writing skills, billing practices, working as a team member, and the firm's unique history and operating principles. The workshops give the lawyers comfort and confidence in their new profession. Mentors. New associates are paired with senior attorneys for ongoing, informal counseling. Match-ups are based on an individual assessment of the needs and personalities of each associate. Mentors report quarterly to the firm's officers on each associate's progress and professional needs, and work with the officers to provide further, targeted practice opportunities. Firm-Wide Practice Management Skills Training. Firm-wide training events include:
The Practice Management Committee coordinates these training opportunities. Associates are welcome as members. |
